Hi Keith, yes I’m just building a building on my property I’m thinking about doing just that but plumbing it from the inside so there’s not a bunch of nasty pipes running all over my house. So one of the first things I learned with the last fire…they want everyone evacuated & so first thing they do…pull the plug on the electricity. So if you pump your water from the lake, like me, or you are on a well…or you have city water…she’s shut off. They keep the hydrants on for the fire depot to fill trucks but that doesn’t help the guy wanting to water his roof. So around here…either gas pumps sucking from the lake or ideally a generator is what I have. 2 of them actually. One on my big new shops & one on my house. Power goes out, transfer switch starts the generator. So during the fires people were scrambling to find tanks & pumps. I was sitting in my living room watching Rockford Files with all my sprinklers going 24/7 haha!
My neighbour fled when the evacuation notice came but no way I was going anywhere. There was no danger. My boat was sitting at the dock & the lakes 80 miles long…I mean it wasn’t like I was going to get trapped. So in his absence he loaned me his 3” pump & hose that was drawing from the lake…sheesh that thing was a game changer! I mean it had all my gutters overflowing in like 3 minutes!! So I bought one & mounted a tank on my big Marmon Harrington hiab truck. Better safe than sorry!
