Power Wagon seat base material

I took my seat apart (1950 FF) in the effort to replace some broken springs and had the notion to also replace the material in the bottom of the seat.

The seat is one of the ones with the "Soft-Firm adjustment.

The stuff I took out looks like maybe at one time was MDF? or some leather-like substance? There are 3 layers - or it has at least separated into 3 layers.

It is in pretty bad shape and I would like to replace it while I am at it... Does anyone know what this material was originally?

Is the original material still available? if so where to find?

Or can it just be replaced with tempered panel board or something similar?
