I picked up a Dana/Spicer bidirectional PTO for my SM420 for $130 bucks. PTO was rusted and the idler gear froze from rust. I searched the net and found a formula for rust removal using citric acid so I thought I would give it a try. I love it! Cleaned off the rust with no damage to the base metal, or foul Oder, like you would have with muriatic acid. I have half the PTO cleaned and I am now cleaning the remainder. Image 1 shows the results after 24hrs soaking. I made a gallon since the PTO is big and the container I am using is weird shaped. It's a little more expensive to make, but the results are great.
