the petronix works on a properly rebuilt distributor. often a petronix is chosen when a truck is running poorly, but the underlying timing issue is worn dist shaft bushings. i chased a vapor lock issue on my command car until i had john bizal rebuild my worn distributor with new bushing and stock ignition parts. the old dist shaft wobbled at speed and gave inconsistent timing.
