Ok, I went back to the repair manuals of WW2 for the ton WC to see if there was any mention of having to adjust tooth pattern on the ring and pinion gears NONE! There are no shims that are required between the pinion FF and large tapered bear GG to move the pinion back, you cant go forward with the pinion, you have a bearing in the way, so the bottom line is no need to worry about tooth pattern because the way the unit is designed, it automatically takes that into account. If youre using the spacer kit to adjust the preload and if the bearing preloads are correct, youre done. Later manuals discuss this tooth pattern, but provide no means of achieving it, so whoever the authors were, they didnt have knowledge or understanding of the unit. Ive rebuilt several units and never worried or considered doing anything with tooth pattern and the units perform just fine, no noise. So as far as Im concerned, there is no need to fiddle with trying to get a tooth pattern that you cant adjust to these units.
