I used 0 cables on my 6V truck but was not trying to use an original cable. I would think that the larges diameter cable, if choosing from what's on hand, should be the from the battery to ground. The starter takes a high percentage of the total current but other items also use different amounts of current so the total current will go thru the ground cable and the individual components with be less than the total.
