Your 1/2-ton most likely had chevron directional tires when it was commissioned with the fronts turned around backwards for maximum traction backing up.

I have the front Versa Turf directional radial tires on my John Deere 1025R turned around for the same reason. The guys at the Deere dealership thought I mistakenly rotated the tires around until I told them the reason.

I have to push snow off of my drive and down hill in some places. No matter how much ballast I have on the 3-point, and weights on the rear wheels, the directional tires on the rear cannot always pull me back up hill onto the pavement because when driving in reverse the tires pull snow back under them and float on top instead of digging down to get traction. The front tires turned around backwards get the best traction in reverse and save me a lot of extra effort (and cussing).
