Good question!
Let's look at the four types of rims typically found on vehicles:
- Semi Drop Center Rim - Two piece, used on FFPW and Military WC's
- Safety Type Rim - One Piece, these have a slight hump on the edge of the bead ledge which hold the bead in place when a tire goes flat
- Drop Center Rim - One piece
- Flat Base Rim - Two Piece
Now let's look at the Divided Wheel and Rims
- Divided Wheel - Known as combat wheel on ΒΌ ton jeeps that divides the rim in two equal parts where studs/nuts are used
- Divided Rim - Has a flange that is held in place by studs/nuts. The "Combat" rim that we install on PW's, but typically were used on WC 3/4 & 1.5 trucks
Now the rim flange
- Continuous Flange or Ring
- Split Flange or One-Piece Split Lock Ring as commonly known - Typically used on PW, M37, M601 and M615 vehicles
- Two-Piece with Split Locking Ring
- Side Flange - Bolted together - the WC Combat Rim.
The continuous ring is the most dangerous of them all.
