Lots of folks are scared to death of split locking rings. Most tire shops look at anything that is multiple pieces and say "nope, we don't work on split rims." Just the same as they look at a ribbed equipment tire on a one piece 16" tubeless rim and say "we don't do ag tires"....

I am sure there are more types of lock ring rims than I have seen, but they are pretty obvious when something is not assembled correctly. Good components are a must and I still inflate them at a safe distance. I am generally more worried about the marginal tire "unzipping" than the rim coming apart.

The way a true split rim holds together is a bit scary and most are tough to understand how they stay together at all.
