Well, after having new lug nut seats cut in 6 rims, I'm finally getting around to preparing them for mounting. I have two images at the link, one checking the out-of-round and the other balancing the rim. Of the 6, I have 4 good rims that will run true. To my surprise when I started checking the balance of the rims, I had one that had the counter weight welded on and when checking I need to add almost as much metal to the opposite side noted by a bolt. So I will probably cut off the weight and see how much I'm off. I checked another rim that didn't have the weight by laying a weight on removed from another rim and it's very close to being balanced. The standard length for the weight seems to be 3 inches on most rims although longer and shorter ones were used. I plan to arc weld the weights on and add any required weight by spot welding till the rim is balanced. Some of the variance may be due to loss of metal from rust. Moral of this post - check your rims especially if you are using balancing beads!
