1/2 ton WC front axle

Back on the 25th of April there was a posting for a 1/2 ton WC for sale in the classifieds https://www.dodgepowerwagon.com/pw/messages/5900046.html . I got to looking at the pictures and it appears to me that the front axle housing is square in cross section rather than round. Did some of the early WC's have square section front axles?
