I have a '51 B-3-PW that is converted to 12V. In order to keep the original 6V fuel gage and heater motor I used a step down converter. I started with a voltage reducer from DCM (same as from VPW), they are cheap and relatively easy to install but I didn't have good luck with them. After 3 failures of these reducers in 6000 miles, I changed to a 25 amp Buck Converter from Amazon for about $25.00. Since it has so much capacity I also use it to power the 6V heater motor. I have not had any problem with it in the 2000 miles since install.
