Ok, with a 12 volt system, your changing the electrical current flow from a positive ground system (6 volt) to a negative ground system (12 volt) so you have to switch the wires at the ammeter gauge or your gauge will reflect negative charging.
I'm assuming you have a red wire going from the switch on the starter to the ammeter gauge that is connected to the "-" terminal on the gauge. That wire must now be connected to the "+" side of the gauge and the wire going to the ignition switch must now be connected to the "-" terminal of the ammeter gauge.
The red wire going from the ignition switch to the ignition coil "-" terminal must now be connected to the "+" terminal on the coil.
If you have a heater, the 6 volt motor should still turn in the correct rotation, if it blows air the opposite direction, you need to install a 12 volt motor.
All other wires connected to the fuel gauge and light switch should be ok.
